Wrasslin'
You know that high school boy that wouldn't wrestle the girl? Yeah, that's not Simon. His thing lately is to refuse to have his diaper changed. That boy will arch his back and roll over so he's essentially doing the head spin break dance move while I've got him by the ankles. Every time we get him on the changing table it's a fight. I sure wish I knew how to put a diaper on a baby on all fours. If Daddy and I are both home we try to double up on him. One gets to pin him down at the shoulders while the other works the business end. At least he doesn't scream the whole time. That lasted a couple of weeks or so. My boy is strong as a mule and twice as stubborn. God bless him.

The Park
| What a face |
I found the park okay and the parking okay. What I hadn't thought through was that it was the first nice Saturday we'd had in some time. I hadn't thought parking would be so horrible. But after what seemed like forever I got us parked. As soon as I got the car in park Simon started screaming. I thought, oh no boy. It's not gonna be this way. I told him we were going to have fun, darnit, because I didn't just drive 40 minutes plus another 15 in the parking lot to have a cranky baby not appreciate what I was doing for him. It did the trick because he quieted down. I set my Carrr Matey and we were off.
I knew roughly where the playground was and so I headed off in that direction. We passed the train station, the paddle boats, and then finally I could see the playground... that had yellow caution tape all around it. Then I saw the other playground across the way with the exact swings I came for only to see it fenced in. They were apparently re-doing the surface of the playground. Boy, was I mad! I couldn't believe it. But, I tried to make the best of it. It was still a gorgeous day and we were still in this gorgeous park. So we walked the trails and watched the duckies in the lake. We saw some doggies and sat in the sparse winter grass. Simon tried to eat the sparse winter grass. It was kind of cool to see my boy getting his hands in the earth. He doesn't spend nearly enough time outside but I also feel like he's just starting to be an age where he can really appreciate nature.

It wasn't long after we left the station that I saw something. It was another set of baby swings! And they weren't padlocked shut! When we got off the train we were going to find the swings. So that's just what we did. After his complete indifference to the train I wasn't sure how he'd react to the swings. I was hoping for something more than "meh." Well, he seemed to really have fun. That's when I took one of my favorite pictures of hm ever.

Maybe it was the sense of victory. Maybe it was just that I was having so much fun or that he had so much fun on the swings, but I really love this picture. It was a lovely day with no computers, no tv. Just me and my boy outside.
I then turned on my Carrr Matey and it said the car was less than 100 yards in that direction. I couldn't believe it. If I had just looked behind me when we got there I could have taken him on swings right away. But I think that was the way our day was meant to be and it was perfectly lovely. Going back is definitely on the agenda for his birthday with maybe a trip to the zoo thrown in for good measure. I'm just glad his birthday isn't on a weekend.

My new books
Simon and I have had a pretty awesome day. We made peas and had lunch. I've been giving Simon bits of real food instead of his puree because he's very hit and miss with that lately. So he had bits of apple, some yogurt, and a pea or two. I still can't tell if he likes peas.
I started to get a little stir-crazy so we ventured out to B&N to look at the books. I found a couple silly/awesome books for him.
When we left it was sort of misty and drizzly. I tried to keep Simon covered up but he wouldn't have it. He kept pulling the shade down and seemed to really enjoy the drops on his face. He was all smiles. Then we made it home and had dinner and folded laundry. I decided it was time to get him to settle down, settle down now. We went in his room and turned on the Mozart and danced a bit. Those were very sweet and special few minutes.
One of the best parts of the day, however, was before he got up. Both my fellas slept in this morning so I had all the Christmas stuff put away before either woke up. It felt good to check that off my list.

We have another book, Tubby, by this offer and it's just about the only book that Simon will sit through. The artwork is simple but great. I was seriously laughing out loud in the store when I was reading through this one.
We're always trying to show Simon how to pet the kitty. He absolutely loves doing it and will sometimes army-crawl as fast as his little arms will take him to get to the kitty. And what little boy doesn't love a good dinosaur?

I'm sick!
Simon got to go to the doctor yesterday because his cough just wasn't getting better. Good thing we went because he came home with 3 prescriptions including a breathing mask we get to use on him every 6 hours. And man, does he love that. If anyone wants to volunteer to help hold him down while we do it we're taking applications.
And one of these days I will write about Christmas. :)

I don't know about this white stuff
We took Simon out to play in the snow yesterday. He was extremely deadpan about the whole experience.

The Big Boy Crib
The crib is completed and has made its way to our home on the top of Grandpa's car. Grandpa and Daddy put it together yesterday and I'm pleased to say Simon is sleeping in it at this moment. I'll say it's a masterpiece and a truly amazing gift for our little boy. As we were getting ready to put him to bed Daddy said that someday Simon's firstborn will use it and so will their firstborn.
Thank you, Grandpa, for the gift and delivering it in person. We love you. And we love Grandma, too.

Another Baby
I know this has nothing to do with me or Simon. But I read this blog Dear Baby and the mom posted this announcing she's pregnant again. Their family is so lovely and sweet and so is this video. I've never met them, but still it made me cry real tears of joy for them.
